At least two pallets full of trading cards worth nearly $1 million collectively were stolen from a FedEx truck in Santa Ana, California, police announced Monday. The theft was reported by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) on Oct. 13, the Santa Ana Police Department said. Officers responde d to the 1600 block of E. St. Andrew Place as a result. The company, which values and authenticates trading cards, said two pallets of cards were stolen and a third pallet was disrupted from a FedEx truck. The pallets contained multiple trading cards, such as Pokémon and sports cards. PSA said it’s working closely with law enforcement entities and FedEx in the investigation. “We have deactivated the certificates for the stolen items and notified marketplace partners so they can be on the lookout for rare and serialized items,” a PSA spokesperson said in a statement. “Our customer service team has contacted affected customers directly and is arranging compensation based on fair market value.”  “We understand the impact this has on collectors involved, many of whom see these cards as far more than a financial asset. Our team is focused on supporting them. We take this incident seriously, and we will continue working with law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable.” Depending on the rarity of a trading card, some can be worth thousands of dollars. In just the last year alone, a handful of card shops in Southern California have been targeted by thieves who’ve broken into stores to steal cards. In the case of PSA’s theft, Santa Ana police said the estimated value of the property lost was $963,000, though it added that “the exact value of what was stolen could not be determined until the remaining boxes were scanned.” No arrests have been made in connection with the stolen goods. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8665. This story originally appeared on NBCLosAngeles.com. ...read more read less
