The project follows approximately $1.5 million in improvements at Muss Bertolino Park over the past four years, according to the city. The investments are part of Mayor Michael Glaser’s initiative to modernize parks, strengthen recreational programming and increase opportunities for residents of all ages. “When we talk about rebuilding Kenner Recreation, we mean more than upgrading facilities,” Glaser said in a news release. “We’re strengthening programs, creating meaningful experiences for our children and making sure every resident has a place to belong. We’re proud of the progress and excited about what’s ahead.” Kenner Recreation offers youth sports programs including baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball and cheerleading. The department also provides art and ceramics classes, dance programs, summer camps, after-school activities and other enrichment opportunities. Adult programs include Zumba, pickleball, martial arts and creative classes. The department also offers adaptive sports and initiatives such as Field of Hope, which are supported through community partnerships. “Not every child wants to play baseball or basketball,” Kenner Recreation Director Charles Illanne said in a statement. “Some want to dance, create art or learn something new. Recreation should help people discover their interests, build relationships and make memories that last a lifetime.” City officials credited recreation employees, volunteer coaches, local businesses and community organizations for supporting facility maintenance, program operations and community activities. Kenner plans to continue upgrading parks and recreational facilities while expanding participation in athletic and nonathletic programs, according to the city.
