Katie Zacharia barely settled into her role as President Donald Trump’s press secretary before she was out, ending a five-day run that gave Anthony Scaramucci a reason to revisit his own famously brief White House career. “Records are made to be broken,” the former communications director wrote on X after Zacharia’s Friday departure. “But I take no pleasure in other people’s pain.” Zacharia’s exit followed a rocky, 14-minute debut briefing and questions about her credentials. But Scaramucci had more to say than a comparison of their short-lived White House careers. White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia conducts her first briefing on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. He encouraged her to turn off the news and enjoy her family, suggesting that losing the job might ultimately work in her favor. ”Dear @katiezacharia — speaking as the world’s leading expert on short White House tenures: turn off the news and go enjoy your family. In time you’ll realize that the Universe did you a major favor.” Zacharia made history on Monday, and by Friday she marked an even shorter White House run than Scaramucci, who lasted 11 days as communications director. With the James S. Brady Press Corps podium now vacant, many are bidding to replace Zacharia. When initially asked who would replace Karoline Leavitt, who stepped away after a year and a half to focus on her family, Trump floated a few options. ‘What a Mess’: Chaos Explodes in White House After Trump Fires Press Secretary in Less Than a Week After Fallout Over Her Credentials‘OMG Gross Gross’: Trump Puts on a Cringe Performance Singling Out Laura Loomer at Mar-a-Lago — but It’s His Creepy Words That Have Viewers Gagging In mid-August, he mentioned CNN commentator Scott Jennings, “my friend from Ohio,” and maybe Margo Martin, executive assistant to the president. Trump then joked about hiring someone from the press, suggesting that many people want the role. “I have never had so many job applications in my life,” he said. Now white nationalist Laura Loomer has entered the chat. The far-right provocateur has built her influence around Trump without an official White House title. In April 2025, she helped push several national security officials out of their jobs. Now Loomer has her sights on the press secretary position, suggesting she wants to take her influence from Trump’s inner circle straight to the podium. “Hear me out. Press Secr Loomer,” she began in one post. “So you’re saying if I dye my hair blonde and I change my name to Kora, I have a chance?” she wrote in another. Loomer says, “I would be an amazing Press Secretary. I’d show President Trump all the receipts. I would bring my binder full of receipts to every briefing.” She believed that people are cruel to Zacharia “because she is pretty and White. White envy and pretty envy are real. She was obviously nervous during her first press briefing and it didn’t go well, but some of you were kinder to Lindsey Clancy. Let that sink in.” To prove she can run the White House, Loomer shared an AI-generated video of herself in a blond wig. It was based on a photo she posted of herself as a kid. “The plot twist nobody saw coming. I’m a natural blonde,” she captioned the photo. But not many replies were in her favor. “Hear me out, Trump wouldn’t even hire you to knock on doors; do you honestly think he would hire you to handle the media? Please get a grip,” said one observer. Another wrote, “You’re great at lying. Sounds like you’d be a great fit for the job.” A third person added, “My God no no no.” “Is she serious?! Has she lost her eyesight and can’t see her face in the mirror?! I would have loved to see her in that job! Would have been the BIGGEST joke and most disgusting thing, well deserved for the savage epic loser Trump,” noted a fourth person. Trump and Loomer have had a controversial relationship for years, despite their disagreement with each other’s views. The self-described Islamophobe has flown on Trump’s campaign plane and stood beside him at 9/11 memorials despite promoting conspiracy theories about the attacks. Yet she and Trump have both posted racist attacks on Barack and Michelle Obama, adding a jarring twist to their public displays of patriotism. “Laura has been a supporter of mine, just like a lot of people are supporters, and she’s been a supporter of mine. She speaks very positively of the campaign,” Trump said in 2024, per Newsbreak. “Laura has to say what she wants. She’s a free spirit.” Scaramucci — the whistleblower who outed the person who despises Trump more than Melania — shared a supportive message to reflect on his and Zacharia’s short time in the White House. “@katiezacharia — speaking as the world’s leading expert on short White House tenures: turn off the news and go enjoy your family. In time you’ll realize that the Universe did you a major favor,” Scaramucci wrote on X. In her final message as press secretary, Zacharia shared a photo of her and Trump in the Oval Office. She described him as a “kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man” who needed more appreciation. “No one will ever make America great the way he has and continues to. It was an honor to work for him,” she concluded. Loomer believes she can do a better job than Zacharia due to her and Trump’s past history. Their displays of patriotism sit uneasily beside the conspiracy theories and racist attacks they’ve promoted online.
