Watching the back and forth about the qualifications for the incumbent county clerk candidate, I’ve seen protestations about how she is experienced, non-partisan and hard working. All are notable qualities, but that reminds me of the adage about “confusing motion for progress.” My ove rriding criteria is does she represent the concerns of the county residents rather than just compromising to satisfy the interests of big developers? Sadly, my conclusion is that Malena Stevens has worked hard, but not for us. My vote goes to a former small-business owner who understands that hard work should be directed toward taking care of the customer (which is us, the country residents). My decision is easy.
