Local delegate encourages Goochland Board of Supervisors to deny data center proposal

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Representing parts of Henrico and Goochland counties, Del. May Nivar (D-57th District) is urging the Goochland Board of Supervisors to deny a near 900-acre data center campus called "Tuckahoe Technology Park."
Nivar told 8News that she's received hundreds of emails a
bout the proposal.
"I just ask, as they go through the process, they really do consider the voices of the community, again, which is squarely around the siting of this particular data center proposal," Nivar said. "It is about the massive scale and proximity of where this data center is being proposed."
Goochland County officials say they have received a pre-application from the data center campus developer Tract to build, but have not yet received the formal application eventually needed for the Board of Supervisors approval.
Nivar sent a letter, signed on Tuesday, October 13, to county officials illustrating her thoughts, including possible impacts on Henrico's West End mere miles away from the proposed site.
She wrote, "The question is whether this particular proposal, at this particular scale and location, is compatible with surrounding communities and consistent with Goochland County's vision for responsible long-term growth. I do not believe it is."
Goochland County Administrator Dr. Jeremy Raley responded to 8News and wrote in part, "The Board of Supervisors have received Delegate Nivar’s letter regarding the proposed Tuckahoe Technology Park. We welcome the viewpoints and perspectives of all residents and interested stakeholders on the important issues impacting our community...No decision on this project has been made as it is still in the pre-application phase. This work will be done in full view of the public."
8News is awaiting a response from Tract.
