One person was found dead inside a charred mobile home following a late-night fire on Coxville Lane in far southeast Dallas. Dallas Fire-Rescue crews arrived to find the structure engulfed in flames. Firefighters determined the blaze was beyond rescue efforts and focused on fighting the fire from outside. Once the flames were extinguished, firefighters discovered a body inside the structure. The remains were unrecognizable, and the Medical Examiner’s Office is working to positively identify the person. Mariana Mendoza said she spotted flames shortly before midnight and rushed toward the burning home with her boyfriend. They called 911 and tried to determine whether anyone was trapped inside. “The whole inside of the house was already in flames, like we could see maybe through the window, everything was just like in flames, and he started knocking on the doors that he could get close to and like the walls, and we didn’t hear anybody,” said Mendoza. She also said her boyfriend wanted to go inside to help, but the danger was too great. “It’s a heavy feeling, especially being like the one that caught 9-1-1, and him wanting to, like, my man wanting to go inside and help someone. But like, we can’t put ourselves in danger trying to; we’re not firefighters. We can’t really do much,” Mendoza said. The mobile home had additional living spaces built onto the structure. The cause of the fire remains unknown. When asked whether overnight winds contributed to the flames spreading rapidly, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson said it was possible. However, fire officials believe clutter found throughout the structure contributed to the fire’s spread. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the American Red Cross was called to assist two men and a woman who lived at the property. This story was originally reported for broadcast by NBC DFW.
