‘Clean Energy Dream Home’ Shows How Ditching Gas Appliances Reduces Indoor Air Pollution
Oct 16, 2026
On the heels of new legislation aimed at helping Californians switch from gas to electric-powered homes, a Silicon Valley-based agency is bringing its “Clean Energy Dream Home” showroom to communities around the Bay Area.During SF’s Fleet Week last week, a 18-by-8-foot mobile showroom created
by Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) was set up along the Embarcadero, as KPIX reports. The display, powered by a Ford electric pickup truck, offers visitors a look at electric appliances designed to reduce household pollution and slash energy bills, while making homes healthier and more comfortable.
The showcase comes as California makes it easier for homeowners to ditch gas. According to KPIX, Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed the Clean Energy Choice Act, introduced by Assemblymember Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park). It requires utilities to offer financial incentives to homeowners who disconnect from gas and electrify their homes when gas service line repairs are scheduled.“This is the all-electric home of the future,” said Nik Kaestner, senior building decarbonization coordinator for the San Francisco Environment Department, speaking to KPIX.The Clean Energy Dream Home features a range of appliances that can replace gas-powered systems, including heat pumps for heating, cooling, and hot water, an induction cooktop, and an electric fireplace.Kaestner demonstrated to KPIX that the induction stove, which uses electromagnets to heat cookware directly instead of burning gas, brings water to a boil considerably faster than a gas stove, keeping energy from escaping into the kitchen.Electric fireplaces are also a source of clean energy.“If you have an all-electric home, you may still want the comfort and warmth from a fireplace,” Kaestner said, speaking to KPIX. “Except this one produces no pollution.”Heat pumps were another major feature of the display. The systems use electricity to transfer heat rather than generate it through combustion, allowing a single unit to heat and cool a home. Heat pump water heaters can also replace conventional gas models.Kaestner said reducing indoor pollution is one of the central advantages of electrification.“The most important benefit for an all-electric home is that it’s a healthier home because there is no gas combustion happening within your four walls,” he told KPIX.Pacific Gas and Electric says customers can save an average of $714 per year by replacing gas heating systems with heat pump technology, as California moves away from new natural gas heaters, as KPIX reports.Homeowners can also search for available rebates and incentives through Switch Is On, BayREN, and California’s home energy programs.Related: SF’s First On-Street, Curbside Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Are Coming to Duboce Triangle and Dogpatch
