Jalen Hurts out for Sunday's game due to blood clot, Eagles announce
Oct 15, 2026
The Eagles will be without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers with what the team is calling a “superficial blood clot.”
Hurts, 28, played every snap in the loss to the Jaguars in Week 5 in London.
According to the Eagles, Hurts was cleated against the
Rams on Oct. 4 and requested treatment on Oct. 8. The Eagles found a superficial blood clot during an ultrasound on Saturday in London, but the Eagles medical staff determined Hurts could play. A follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday evening revealed movement from the clot.
Hurts will be out against the Panthers as the Eagles “determine the appropriate course of treatment.”
Hurts first popped up as a full participant with a calf injury on the Eagles’ injury report Friday ahead of the game in London. He was again listed on Wednesday’s report to start this week.
This does explain Hurts’ mysterious answer when asked about the injury during his press conference on Wednesday.
“It was a very unique experience to say the least,” Hurts said. “I don’t want to get into the details kind of leading up to the game and whatnot. But I got nicked up in the Rams game.”
Earlier this season, the Eagles’ backup quarterback was Andy Dalton but after Dalton threw an interception on his only pass in Chicago, the Eagles changed the depth chart. Tanner McKee was promoted to the backup spot and Dalton was eventually released.
The Eagles will go into this game with McKee as their starter. Their backup will presumably be rookie fifth-round pick Cole Payton. Although, when Dalton was released, there were reports that he could return on the practice squad.
McKee, 26, is in his third NFL season but has not yet seen any game action in 2026. He has started two games in his career with a 1-1 record. Over six games in his NFL career, McKee has completed 61.4% of his passes for 597 yards with 5 touchdowns and 1 interception.
