The Plaza Hotel is closing at the start of 2027, leaving wedding plans in limbo
Oct 15, 2026
One of New York’s most iconic landmarks will soon close its doors.
The Plaza Hotel, located across Central Park at 5th Avenue and 59th Street, is set to undergo repairs of its historic facade. The restoration work is said to be so extensive that the entire hotel needs to shut down for roughly f
our years to complete the necessary repairs.
The 119-year-old hotel is currently scheduled to close down in January of 2027. If construction is done on schedule, it should reopen in 2031.
Maps show areas of concern
The Department of Buildings shared schematics from each side of the building.
It’s not yet clear how the upcoming closure will impact long-term residents and the substantial wedding operations.
The hotel, first opened in 1907, has been popularized many times over in film and television — maybe most famously in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
Since opening, the hotel has gone through a number of renovations. It is currently home to 282 guestrooms and 181 condo units.
