At 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, the Miners girls soccer team will take on Provo under the Dozier Field lights to open the playoffs.  Park City is the top seed in 4A. The Miners are 17-1, rattling off 15-straight wins after falling on Aug. 11 to Olympus.  Park City is fueled by a wide depth of t alent. The Miners have seven players with at least eight goals this season. One of those players with eight goals, and with three assists, is sophomore midfielder Reagan Bowers. Reagan was elevated from the JV team full time this season, joining her senior sister, Addison Bowers, on the varsity team. A defender, Addison has a goal and five assists.  The two sisters love playing alongside each other. They believe the camaraderie of this team, which has won four-straight 4A Region 10 championships, could help fuel a run toward its first state title since 2005.  “This season, I’ve just been trying to work hard because I’m one of the youngest on the team,” Reagan said. “I’ve just been trying to work as hard as I can to show (head coach Anthony DiCicco) how I deserve to get the same amount of minutes (as older players). … Another reason why I love being on the same high school team is because I get to spend like every second with (Addison) because we have practice and games like every day.” Reagan knows how rare it is to get to play with her sister, who she refers to as her “role model.” “I feel like it’s pretty smooth,” Addison said. “We’re like each other’s best friends, so we usually get along pretty well. We had some rough moments, but I feel like because we play different positions, it doesn’t really affect us that much. I feel like if we were playing the same position, we would be head-to-head more.” The Bowers family all love soccer. Their younger brother is in eighth grade, and they believe he could be the best soccer player of the bunch. Their dad, Steve, played at multiple Division 1 schools.  “It’s been that way since they were born,” Steve said. “A memory as a parent is sitting on the sideline and hearing the announcer say ‘Addison Bowers, Reagan Bowers.’ It’s just one of those feelings that makes you tingle. And from day one, we’ve always encouraged our girls to be best friends.” DiCicco helps make moments like the announcer welcoming the sisters onto the field possible. When there have been sisters in the program, he’s brought them together for games like the Miners’ senior night game. Last season, Reagan was called up from JV for a few games, marking the first time since childhood that the sisters had played together.  “A cool memory from this season was our Judge game when Addison crossed it to me and I scored,” Reagan said. “And we ran straight to each other. … I think that’ll stay with me forever.” Reagan noted that last year’s team only graduated three seniors. She thinks the group’s lessons learned over the past few years will help them navigate this season’s playoffs. Addison said the goal is to win it all this year.  “I think this team has had the best connection throughout the four years we’ve all been playing with each other,” Addison said. “We’ve all grown with each other from JV to varsity. … And we all want the same objective at the end of the story, which is to win state.” Reagan said Park City is continuing to give every practice their all. She said she and the other underclassmen want to win the title for the seniors who won’t have another crack at it. Addison will be playing next year at Trinity University in San Antonio, where she’s trying to recruit Reagan.  “(Playing sports with a sibling) might not be everyone’s thing,” Addison said. “It’s nice to know we can relate about something in our life other than being siblings. We both know the same feelings of going through a loss and a win, and how it’s like to get recruited.” If the Bowers sisters are able to help the Miners collect a win on Tuesday, the team will face the winner of Snow Canyon and Desert Hills at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Dozier. The semifinals and finals of the 4A playoffs will be held next Tuesday and Friday at Herriman’s Zions Bank Stadium.  The post Miners girls soccer team begins playoffs on Tuesday appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
