RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginians may have woken up Tuesday morning to see a strange, bright light in the sky -- and some 8News viewers caught the phenomenon on camera. But what was it? SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 6:33 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, carr ying the company’s 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. The Cargo Dragon spacecraft is expected to arrive at the space station following a two-day flight. “The launch will kick off the CRS-35 mission, so named because it will be the 35th that SpaceX flies under a Commercial Resupply Services contract with NASA,” according to Space.com. Floridians also spotted a glowing phenomenon known as the "jellyfish effect," which can occur when Falcon 9 or another rocket launches shortly before sunrise or just after sunset.
