Oct 12, 2026
A woman and her daughter were found shot to death inside a burning home in Philadelphia’s East Mount Airy community, police and family members said.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded as firefighters responded to a house fire at a home along the 8200 block of Williams Avenue in
East Mount Airy at about 3:45 a.m. on Monday.
Officials said, at that same time, first responders received calls for a shooting at that same property.
At the scene, first responders found two women inside the burning home after they had both been shot in the head, police said.
Both women were taken to a nearby hospital where they both died from their injuries, according to police. A family member identified the victims as 78-year-old Sadie Turner and her daughter, Gaby Turner, who is in her early 20s.
In a morning update, police said this incident may be connected to the man who barricaded himself inside a SEPTA bus in Philly’s Fox Chase section on Monday morning. The family member later told NBC10 that the barricaded suspect was the person involved in the deaths of the two women.

The fire at the home, officials said, was placed under control by about 4:30 a.m.
Officials have not revealed the cause of the fire or if it was intentionally set.
As the investigation continues, neighbors told NBC10 the incident has shaken up their close-knit community.
“I think the whole block is just shook up right now,” a neighbor, who did not reveal his full name, told NBC10. “We’re kind of like community in this block. Like everybody kind of knows each other so it’s tough hearing something like that right next to you. Right across the street from there. That’s crazy.”
According to police statistics, as of Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, there were 133 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far this year.
This is down by about 24% from the same time in 2025, those same statistics show.
