INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man will spend more than a century in prison for a mass shooting that killed a woman and wounded five others on Christmas Day. Dauzon Garzon received a 117-year sentence Thursday for the 2024 shooting that killed Ana Paredes Teran. In August, a Marion County j ury convicted Garzon of murder, four counts of aggravated battery and five counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon following a three-day trial. Garzon also pleaded guilty to a firearm sentencing enhancement. “Ana was an innocent woman who lost her life on Christmas Day, a time when families should be coming together,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “Her loved ones are left grieving a loss that never should have happened, and four other victims continue to live with the consequences of one person’s choice to use a firearm. Today, the defendant has been sentenced to more than a century behind bars for the devastation he caused.” The shooting happened on Dec. 25 at a home in the 6400 block of Meadowlark Drive. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at the scene and found several people with gunshot wounds. Witnesses told police Garzon was the shooter and officers found him trying to hide nearby. Survivors told investigators that Garzon started an argument with another person during a party inside the house. The argument escalated into a physical fight before Garzon pulled out a gun and began shooting, according to court records. The gunfire killed Teran and seriously injured five other partygoers. ...read more read less
