For the second night in a row a raucous, sell-out crowd at Petco Park came to see if the Padres could avoid Major League Baseball playoff elimination. With 47,712 fans in the stadium it was the 3rd largest crowd in Petco Park history. The Padres had a chance for early offense, after loading th e bases in the 1st inning, but Xander Bogaerts popped up ending the threat. Walker Buehler started for the Padres and pitched a clean first two innings, before allowing an RBI single to Garrett Mitchel for a 1-0 Brewers lead in the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the inning, Petco Park came alive when Fernando Tatis Jr. crushed a 429 foot home run to center field. Afterwards, Tatis posed to the Padres bench as Padre fans erupted while he rounded the bases. Milwaukee broke the tie in the 5th inning, a Mitchell triple down the line in right-field, was soon followed by a Jackson Chourio liner up the middle for a 2-1 Brewers lead. The Padres entered the game with an over-taxed, stressed bullpen, before the game manager Craig Stammen called it an “all-hands on deck game.” Through 5 innings, the Padres had already used 4 pitchers. The Padres 5th pitcher of the game was Jason Adam. Milwaukee touched up Adam for a run on 2 hits and a sac fly, stretching their lead to 3-1. Before the game the Padres got some good news with the return of closer Mason Miller from the paternity list. Miller missed Tuesday night’s Game 3 due to the birth of he and his wife’s first child, a boy named Lincoln. Miller entered the game in the 7th inning, trying hold the deficit at 2 runs. It took Miller 20 pitches, but he got out of the inning without giving up a run. The final score was 3 to 1 in favor of the Brewers.  This story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser. ...read more read less
