Driver killed, 2 hurt in multivehicle crash involving pedestrian in West Philly

A man was killed and two other people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon in West Philadelphia, according to police.
At approximately 1:29 p.m., police responded to the multi-vehicle crash in the 1500 block of Westminster Avenue.
According to polic
e, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 51-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Westminster Avenue when he struck the rear of a Nissan Sentra that was stopped at a red light.
Officials said the Chevrolet then struck a Lexus traveling eastbound on Westminster Avenue before leaving the roadway, striking a pedestrian and coming to a stop against a building.
Police said the 51-year-old driver was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died at 2:12 p.m.
According to officials, the driver of the Nissan was evaluated at the scene and released. The driver of the Lexus was transported to Lankenau Medical Center in stable condition. The pedestrian was transported to Einstein Medical Center with a leg injury.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
