A Philadelphia man will spend two years in prison after robbing a convenience store at gunpoint in 2024, according to the Department of Justice. On Oct. 6, 2024, Larry Dempsey, now 53, went into a convenience store on the 2600 block of North 27th Street in North Philadelphia armed with a gun. While inside the store, Dempsey chased the worker out of the store before taking cash out of the register and firing his gun two times. The gunshots caused damage to the store, but no one was reportedly injured. Dempsey was charged in June of 2025 and then pleaded guilty one year later to robbery as well as using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced to serve 120 months plus one day in prison which will be followed by supervised release. Dempsey was also ordered to pay $7,600 in restitution.
