CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is teaming up with Queens University to help residents navigate the rising threat of cybercrime and digital tracking. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The “Protect You and Your Tech” campaign connects crime vict ims, domestic violence survivors, and senior citizens with what’s called a “digital navigator.” That person can help you safely separate online accounts or secure devices that have been hacked. All you have to do is call 311. Bruce Clark with Queens University says, “If you’re in danger or believe you’re a victim of a crime, call 911. If you have a question about your phone, your accounts, or something just doesn’t feel right, call 311, press any button and ask to speak with a digital navigator.” Organizers are hosting a free in-person cybersecurity workshop on Tuesday, October 27th, at the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center. You can sign up right now by calling 311. ...read more read less
