(KRON) - San Francisco supervisors have approved a temporary 45-day moratorium on new data center approvals while the city studies their potential impacts. The urgency ordinance took effect immediately after passing the Board of Supervisors. During the moratorium, the city will examine issues in cluding energy and water use, air quality, land use and potential impacts on surrounding communities. The Planning Department will also work on updated long-term regulations and a clearer definition of what qualifies as a data center. City planners are required to report back within 25 days on their progress, with a hearing to follow no later than 35 days after the ordinance takes place.
