The crash happened on East Gibbsboro Road between South Berlin Road and Emerson Avenue in Lindenwold on Oct. 6 a
round 2:11 p.m., police said. The portion of the road was currently closed as the investigation continues.
Five teens – ranging from 14 to 16 years old – were hurt with non-life-threatening injuries and a sixth victim was placed in critical condition, according to officials. One of the victims was trapped under the vehicle.
Emergency personnel were able to lift the SUV and get the trapped person out from under it, police said.
A man who told NBC10 that he and his coworkers heard the crash said the driver of the SUV and a passenger tried to escape but they were able to stop them.
Dennis Woodley Jr. explained that once he and his coworker ran to the scene, they were able to restrain the driver until the cops got there to arrest him.
“It was a crazy scene,” he told NBC10.
Woodley also said that there were children there and that they had started to panic.
“I heard a voice saying ‘help’ but it was, like, a little faint,” Woodley said. “Then I seen the kid under the front bumper.”
SkyForce10 was over the scene where we saw a silver SUV up onto the sidewalk and propped up by a device.
The SUV had damage to its front windshield and bumper and appeared to have knocked down a fence.
First responders were seen speaking with a woman who was sitting on the curb.
NBC10 is working to learn more.
