Avondale Global Gateway received its first shipment of Venezuelan aluminum Oct. 5, establishing a new trade route into the United States through the Jefferson Parish terminal on the Mississippi River.
The shipment arrived aboard the MV Lipsi and represents a new source of aluminum for the U.S. market, according to T. Parker Host, which operates Avondale Global Gateway. The company said the cargo also expands the terminal’s role in handling materials used by domestic manufacturers and other industrial customers.
U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow joined Avondale Global Gateway and T. Parker Host officials and other partners to mark the shipment’s arrival.
T. Parker Host said the new trade corridor is expected to support U.S. manufacturing and supply chains while expanding international commerce moving through Louisiana.
The shipment also adds another commodity to the mix handled at Avondale, a former shipyard that has been redeveloped into a multimodal logistics and industrial facility.
Located at 5100 River Road in Avondale, the terminal provides deepwater access along the Mississippi River, large-scale warehousing and connections to Class I railroads. The facility handles bulk and breakbulk cargo moving between international markets and destinations throughout North America.
T. Parker Host operates Avondale Global Gateway as a logistics and terminal facility serving manufacturers, shippers and other industrial customers. The company has positioned the Jefferson Parish site as a hub for expanding cargo activity and industrial investment along Louisiana’s Mississippi River corridor.
