BATON ROUGE - A Denham Springs man who owns a business in Livingston Parish and has been in the U.S. since 1993 is the target of a recent federal denaturalization case, The Advocate reported Monday.nbsp;Court documents show that prosecutors in Louisiana's Middle District have filed to revoke natura lization status for 68-year-old Nachhatar Singh on Aug. 27.nbsp;The newspaper said Singh arrived in the U.S. from India in 1993 as Sawaran Singh, but then changed his name in 1996 after receiving a deportation order for skipping immigration hearings.nbsp; The Advocate spoke to Singh, who owns a gas station in Livingston and has run the store for the past 26 years.nbsp;ldquo; So many times I catch somebody who has stolen something from my store, a drink or candy; I never complained. I only told him, next time be careful, and if yoursquo;re hungry, tell me, I can give you a drink, rdquo; he said. ldquo;I try to help people because I know how it is to be a poor man living in this world.rdquo;Singh is due back in court in December.nbsp;Permalink| Comments ...read more read less
