Nunez Community College will bring together computer science faculty and industry partners Oct. 8 for a public discussion examining how artificial intelligence is changing cybersecurity, including emerging threats, potential solutions and workforce implications.
The free Cybersecurity Day event will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Student Testing and Career Counseling Center on the college’s Chalmette campus. The program is part of Cyber Awareness Month.
Faculty from Nunez’s computer science program will join industry partners from the program’s advisory council to discuss the benefits and risks associated with using AI in online security.
“There are so many takes and opinions about AI flying around right now. This discussion is a chance for our students and our community to hear from industry leaders about the threats and solutions AI poses on a local level, and about where the field is heading,” Computer Science Program Chair Martin Davis said.
Representatives from local employers and Louisiana universities also will participate, providing students with information about career opportunities and options for continuing their education after graduating from Nunez.
The event comes as the college expands its AI-related course offerings. Nunez will offer Intro AI Prompt Engineering and Business Computer Applications during its Mini-Session B, which begins Oct. 14.
Nunez Community College, located at 3710 Paris Road in Chalmette, offers associate degrees and other credentials and provides academic and workforce training aimed at meeting regional industry needs.
