Brendon Burfield, 16, was a junior at Kennedale High School and died in a motorcycle crash on September 26.
“Brendon and his friends did what he loved most,” The principal of Kennedale High School wrote on a social media post. “They went out riding their motorcycles. Near the end of the ri
de, Brendon had stopped his bike and was accidentally struck by a friend on another motorcycle.”
Before moving to Kennedale, Brendon was a Venus ISD student. On Sunday, old classmates and his close friends and family gathered for a balloon release in his honor.
“Brendon was a very, very outgoing person,” Chase Green, one of Brendon’s close friends, said.”Kind of brought everyone out of their shell.”
A group of Brendon’s close friends spoke with NBC 5. They said he made everyone laugh, and that everyone loved being around him.
Brendon is remembered for never being afraid to take risks, for always smiling and for always prioritizing his close relationships.
“Even after school, he would come over here to Venus and just hang out with us,” Christopher Porter, one of Brendon’s close friends, said.
As all who knew Brendon continue grieving, school communities are encouraging community healing through gatherings like Sunday’s balloon release.
“It’s never going to get easier,” Chase said. “You’re just going to learn to live with it.”
His friends said Brendon always wanted to build a 2nd generation truck. They told NBC 5 they plan to try to get together to fulfill that dream in his honor one day.
