Parallel parking in Philadelphia can sometimes feel like a competitive sport. Now, it actually is one. The Philadelphia Parallel Parking Association is putting 15 residents behind the wheel to determine who deserves the title of “Best Parallel Parker in Philadelphia 2026” with this unique cha mpionship. The competition consists of three challenges designed to test different aspects of that most essential driving skills. First up is “One Shot,” a closest-to-the-curb challenge. Organizers said competitors get one attempt and no corrections to execute a textbook parallel parking job. Their performance is scored based on distance from the curb. Next comes “Tight Squeeze.” Drivers will have just 12 inches of clearance and must park within 6 inches of the curb using as few moves as possible. Then in “Under Duress,” competitors have to parallel park as quickly as possible while dealing with active pressure from distractions and barriers. Organizers said don’t expect technology to come to the rescue. Backup cameras and parking assistance systems are not permitted. Participants will be ranked in each event based on its success metrics. Organizers said first place, earns 10 points, while second place earns eight. Then the top three participants across the three events will advance to the finals.
