You’ve got a fare hike incoming, NYC Ferry riders.
The city’s Economic Development Corporation board voted Wednesday to advance a proposal to bring the cost of a one-way ferry ride from $4.50 to $5. The rate change starts Oct. 19.
Fare hikes also impact the cost of a 10-day trip, which wil
l go up from $29 to $30. The ferry’s unlimited two-day ticket option — which will become a permanent option after being introduced as a pilot in 2025 — will remain priced at $15.
In addition, the price of a discount ticket will increase 5 cents to $1.50 and expands eligibility to the city’s middle school students.
The EDC board last pushed through a fare hike in 2024. Then, the price of a one-way ride jumped from $4 to the current ticket price of $4.50.
Back in June, the board announced new ridership records for the ferry system. According to a press release, they saw their highest daily and weekly ridership from June 15 through June 21.
The daily high peaked at 56,882 passengers on Aug. 15, which was the third time in the summer a daily ridership record was set. Total ridership by year hit an all-time high in 2025, with nearly 7,370,000 riders — up from nearly 2.9 million when it started in 2017.
“This record-breaking week is yet another sign of NYC Ferry’s continued momentum and importance to New York City’s transit ecosystem,” said NYCEDC Interim President and CEO Jeanny Pak.
