INDIANAPOLIS — Gov. Mike Braun and school officials celebrated a major construction milestone Wednesday: the “topping out” of the new Education Building for the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) and the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI). Workers placed the final structural steel beam for the four-story, 267,000-square-foot facility. The building is the centerpiece of a $655 million project to share a 67-acre campus at 75th Street and College Avenue. (Provided Photo/Gov. Today brings us another step closer to making that vision a reality.” Designers tailored the campus for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or have low vision. The layout includes specialized acoustics, tactile elements, and high-contrast colors to help students navigate the space. “Reaching this point reflects the tremendous amount of planning and collaboration that has gone into this effort,” Indiana Department of Administration Commissioner Jon Ferguson said. “We have an opportunity to create a place that works for the students and educators who will use it every day, and whose accommodations and path to success have remained at the center of this work from the beginning.” The development includes six new buildings and renovations to four existing structures. The project also features new residence halls, a fieldhouse, and a dining hall created from a former natatorium. The Indiana Department of Administration is managing the project, with RATIO leading the design and Turner Construction serving as construction manager. Builders expect to finish the campus by spring 2028. ...read more read less
