RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 35-year-old Richmond man will spend 11 years behind bars after trafficking about 1 kilogram of cocaine and fentanyl, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). According to court documents, law enforcement searched two homes associated with 35-year-old Drequan Keymontay Peoples of Richmond on Sept. 11, 2025. Peoples allegedly fled the scene as officers approached one of the homes. Virginia State Police troopers eventually followed and apprehended Peoples, the DOJ said. Authorities said he possessed a backpack that contained $42,290 in cash, 23 oxycodone pills, 20 alprazolam pills and two cellphones. Investigators also recovered more than 950 grams of cocaine, more than 250 grams of heroin/fentanyl, nine firearms and ammunition.
