INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman who is listed by the IRS as an acceptance agent for Flores Immigration Consultants is facing felony charges after prosecutors say she took nearly $2,000 from a couple seeking help with the U.S. citizenship process. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announc ed Tuesday that Stefania Flores faces two counts of theft and two counts of Level 6 felony fraud. A warrant was issued for her arrest, but she was not listed as a Marion County jail inmate on Tuesday afternoon. According to a probable cause affidavit, Flores and her company, Global Services, told the couple they could help with the citizenship process by finalizing a marriage license, drafting lease agreements and completing a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services form. The couple made multiple payments to Flores for the services, according to the affidavit. Investigators determined Flores did not complete the services or submit the required forms on the couple’s behalf. The IRS lists Stefania G. Flores, doing business as Flores Immigration Consultants, as an acceptance agent at an Indianapolis address. Acceptance agents can assist taxpayers with certain federal tax matters and related documentation, but that designation does not make someone an attorney or an accredited immigration representative.
