Sen. Ted Cruz took a big step forward Monday in his effort to impose order on what he describes as college sports chaos, as the Senate approved his proposal to impose new rules on player eligibility, transfers and compensation deals. Cruz said before the vote the bill is necessary to preserve a v ibrant environment for the student-athletes on the field and the fans cheering for their favorite teams. “This bill is about protecting what makes college sports uniquely American,” Cruz said before the bipartisan 77-22 vote to approve the measure.
