Fort Pierre, SD – Fort Pierre residents are being asked to help shape how the community welcomes visitors and plans for tourism growth through a new resident survey open now through Oct. 20. The survey is part of Fort Pierre’s participation in Travel South Dakota’s Destination Development Prog ram. The survey is designed to gather residents’ perspectives on Fort Pierre’s strengths, opportunities and future as a destination. Responses will help inform work focused on creating authentic visitor experiences, encouraging travelers to spend more time in Fort Pierre and supporting local businesses while preserving the qualities that make the community distinctive. Fort Pierre is one of two destinations selected for the second year of Travel South Dakota’s Destination Development Program. Through the program, Fort Pierre Tourism is working with Travel South Dakota and George Washington University’s International Institute of Tourism Studies to evaluate existing tourism assets, identify opportunities to enhance visitor experiences and develop strategies for long-term tourism growth. The resident survey is one part of a broader community engagement effort. Fort Pierre Tourism will also seek feedback from businesses, community organizations, visitors and other stakeholders as the destination development process continues. Residents can complete the survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/fortpierreresident. Paper copies are available at Drifters Bar Grille, the Log Cabin Visitors Center and the City of Fort Pierre office on the lower level of the Stanley County Courthouse.
