It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. On July 6th, the Sixers added a piece in a monster trade with the Celtics. That piece is a five-time NBA All-Star and Finals MVP. On July 24th? Well … We all know what happened that day. Many said it didn’t feel real. That it wouldn’t se t in until LeBron James was in a Sixers uniform. Well that time has come, and seeing it in person was something else. The day started early. No phones or cameras were allowed until morning practice concluded at 10 a.m. There was a big huddle as the players wrapped up practice. Then Maxey and James started shooting at the basket next to our setup, and a couple of rebounds came our way. Carts loaded with lighting, backdrops and camera equipment flooded in. Sets quickly lined the perimeter of two basketball courts. Then things got hectic. Justin Edwards, Jabari Walker and Adem Bona made their way onto the courts. Then Edgecombe and Maxey. But no one could miss LeBron. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s own Amy Fadool sat down with James for an exclusive one-on-one interview. It was surreal to be just feet away as he began his stint in Philadelphia. NBC Sports Philadelphia wasn’t just filming with the players on the court. We were also streaming the podium press conferences and taping promos for Sixers Pregame and Postgame Live. I snuck away to get some action of Tyrese Maxey as he read scripts for hype videos and promos. It was chaotic and fast-paced, but somehow calming at the same time. We got to see the Sixers up close and personal, but the best part was everything happening in between. Players messing around. Playing rock-paper-scissors. Taking turns at the basket. It was a small glimpse of just how excited everyone seemed to be. Joel Embiid with a huge smile on his face. James and Maxey interrupting each other’s interviews. Players joking around between takes. There was an energy around this team that felt different. And for one day, we got to see it from a few feet away.
