(CNN)– President Trump’s trade war with Canada could soon make some protein powders and snacks more expensive. Canada has imposed a 50% tariff on American whey, a major ingredient in protein shakes, bars, and other high-protein foods. The U.S. is also banning businesses from buying some Canad ian whey products. American whey prices were already climbing sharply before the president’s latest tariffs and trade restrictions. As a result, industry analysts say consumers can expect some whey-based products to become more expensive through early next year.
