HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- At least one Richmond-area Starbucks location will close as part of the coffee chain's latest wave of closings across North America. A notice posted outside the Starbucks located at Thalhimer-owned Shoppes at Westgate at 11735 W. Broad St., across from Short Pump Town Center, said the company made the "difficult decision to close this Starbucks location." The closure is part of Starbucks' second round of store closures under Starbucks chairman and CEO Brian Niccol. The company said 627 stores in North America and Europe closed as part of the latest round. "We know this may be hard to hear -- because this isn't just any store," the coffee chain said in the notice posted at the Short Pump location. "It's your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm where memories were made and meaningful connections with our partners grew. (Photo: Ben Walls/8News) In a letter to employees, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the stores selected for closure either were not delivering acceptable financial results or could not provide the kind of experience the company wants for customers and employees.
