BATON ROUGE - Just a week removed from getting torched, both in the passing game and the run game, by Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, the LSU defense faced the tall task of trying to contain Texas AM quarterback Marcel Reed, a mobile signal-caller the unit has had well-documented struggles with in the past.Blake Baker's defense was ready for Reed this time as the Tigers dominated the Aggies in a 35-6 win."Blake did a really good job; he spent a lot of time in the offseason, and this didn't start this week," said LSU head coach Lane Kiffin. "This was a big emphasis of the performances the last couple of seasons against Texas AM, so that game plan was unique."Especially when compared to his previous stat lines against LSU, Reed's numbers against LSU this time around are all the more jarring. The Aggie QB finished with -13 rushing yards and an interception. He was sacked four times as well.On the other side of the ball, Tiger QB Sam Leavitt answered the many questions he faced from critics after a poor showing against Ole Miss. With the normally fleet-footed Leavitt hobbled due to what Lane Kiffin called a hamstring issue, Leavitt turned in a solid pocket-passing performance."Going into the week, the emphasis for me was just staying in the pocket and letting it rip," said Leavitt. "And then one little thing for me was just watching the ball when I threw it in warmups, just looking at exactly where I want to place it."Despite the big win over AM, the injuries just keep piling up for LSU. Star linebacker Whit Weeks fractured his leg during the game and left the field on crutches.
