RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Community members in Richmond gathered for the first-ever walk to raise awareness of long-term care reform for the elderly community. On Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Life Church RVA-North, located at 3601 Dill Road, the nonprofit organization ROAR (Respe ct, Oversight, Advocacy and Reform) organized a nationwide walk to demand justice and change for victims of nursing facilities. And it's to get the community, make community awareness, because it's going to take that," said Tracy Pompey, the organizer of the event. "It's not just the advocacy groups. It needs to, we have to have a community effort to make changes and get the community to understand that our elderly lives matter as well." ROAR's mission is to work with the states and organizations to share information about the treatment, rights and safety of residents in long-term care.
