UNION CITY, Calif. (KRON) -- In 1990, Tony Lim started a business that would years later become a staple in the Bay Area. Ling Nam opened in Daly City that year and has been serving various Filipino dishes for decades. One menu item that has stood above them all is señorita bread -- simple yet ult ra-popular. Ling Nam's signature green box with the baked good is now open in the East Bay. Ling Nam celebrated the grand opening of its Union City location on Saturday, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "This has been my dad's legacy. He started this in 1990, and we are just now expanding it," said Alexson Lim, the son of Tony who runs the Union City outpost. "You can see this is such a great turnout. It does really take a village to run a business. We're eternally grateful for the friends, family and community that we have here." Ling Nam in Union City, of course, has señorita bread on its menu. However, the buzz around the business has extended beyond its signature bread. Two clips posted on Ling Nam's Facebook from its KRON4 interview have a combined 3.5 million views. The clips highlighted the Filipino breakfast the restaurant serves. Other offerings include Filipino-style empanadas (chicken, beef or pork options), siopao, leche flan and ube cookies. "Ling Nam started in Daly City, and it's so wonderful to see it continue to expand," Manalo said. "I'm so honored to celebrate with the (Lim) family who has been a staple in our community." Ling Nam is located at 1760 Decoto Road. The mom-and-pop business announced plans earlier this year to expand to South San Francisco. That outpost is expected to open later this year.
