Proving he is truly a unicorn in the modern NBA, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116M contract extension. As NBC Bay Area Sports reports, this deal amounts to Curry giving the Warriors a 10% discount in hopes of constructing a stronger roster ahead of the 2 027-2028 season. The deal was announced on Friday evening and includes a player option for the 2028-29 NBA season.Presuming Curry stays through the duration of his contract, he will have played 20 seasons with one team. That would put him in the rarefied air of Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki (21 seasons) and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (20 seasons) for most seasons played with a single team by anyone in the history of the NBA.In an off-season that's almost entirely consisted of the Warriors re-signing rostered players to new deals, Curry's decision to give his team one last chance to get him some help should put any recent murmurs about his theoretical departure from the Bay Area to rest.By leaving about $20 million on the table in terms of what he was eligible to receive, Curry will look to a front office comprised of owner Joe Lacob, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., and head coach Steve Kerr to give him a shot at winning a fifth NBA title in the twilight of what's been a singular career.Speaking with media on Wednesday — two days before the extension was announced — Curry acknowledged the choice ahead of him was different in that it may be the last one he ever signs.“It's not really an obvious type of let's-just-do-this-and-keep-it-moving type situation," Curry said, per NBC Bay Area Sports. "This is one of the rare ones in my career that you're trying to make sure you have just peace of mind with it all."Heading into the 2026-27 season, health will be the primary concern for the 38-year-old Curry, who missed close to 30 games last season with a case of runner's knee. The same can be said for several of Curry's teammates, including his presumed co-star, Jimmy Butler, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury back in January, as SFist previously reported.
