Giants fans are preparing to say goodbye to Bay Area legend Mike Krukow. Krukow will call his final game on Sunday, ending a 36-year run in the broadcast booth. For generations of fans, Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper have been part of the family, calling games together since 1990. On Sunday, fan s are getting one last chance to hear “Kruk and Kuip” together in the booth. The Giants and Dodgers opened their three-game series on Thursday at Oracle Park, with Krukow’s final series marking the end of an era. Krukow announced his retirement in August. The 74-year-old has said he doesn’t really want to, but needs to, as he battles a degenerative muscle disease. It’s a decision that wasn’t easy to share with fans or with his broadcast partner, who’s been by his side for more than three decades. “It was the hardest thing I had to do was walk away from him. We’ve been through so much life together, I didn’t know if there was a perfect time or a perfect place then in the end in the lunchroom. I said I think I’m done and he says ‘No, you’re not’,” Krukow told NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai. It’s a friendship that started when they were Giants teammates but grew into so much more. “Kruk and Kuip” became the soundtrack for all Giants fans, which included three World Series titles. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie declared Thursday as “Kruk and Kuip Day” in the city. As Krukow gets ready for his final game, there’s one thing he wants his fans to know. “I’m going to tell them just how much they mean to me and my family on the last day. I don’t know if you can convey it in words, but it’ll be conveyed in emotion. That I can guarantee,” he said.
