The leader of a Colombian paramilitary organization that allegedly dealt in cocaine cultivation and production was extradited to San Diego Friday, where he faces federal charges that include narco-terrorism and conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Geovany Andres Rojas, 45, also known as Araña, led Comandos de la Frontera, an organization that exerted control over one of Colombia’s top cocaine producing regions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The group was made up of ex-combatants from Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, which signed a peace accord with Colombia’s president in 2016, though smaller FARC factions continued engaging in armed conflicts. The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges Rojas was a member of FARC when the peace agreement was signed, but later rejected it, resumed armed activities, and became a guerilla leader. Colombian officials handed Rojas off to U.S. law enforcement officials Friday morning and he arrived in San Diego late Friday afternoon, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
