1 of 4 With the November 3 General Election approaching, the message from Miami-Dade election officials last week extended well beyond dates and deadlines: preparing voters also means meeting communities where they are. That approach was on display as Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia joined community leaders, advocates and organizations for a series of initiatives focused on accessibility, voter education and participation. One of the week’s major events brought special attention to Miami-Dade’s neurodiverse community. Garcia joined District 7 Commissioner Raquel Regalado, The WOW Center, Great Heights Academy, the University of Miami Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), families and advocates for a news conference highlighting the importance of accessible and independent participation in the electoral process. The gathering focused not only on voting accommodations and resources, but also on a broader message: neurodiverse residents are an important part of Miami-Dade’s civic life and should have every opportunity to participate confidently in decisions that affect their communities. For Garcia, the initiative reflected an effort to make voter outreach personal and inclusive. “This was a week that reflected precisely what we want to accomplish as an Office: to be present in the community, listen to our voters and make sure every eligible person knows they have a place in our electoral process,” Garcia said. “When we remove barriers, provide clear information and make different ways to participate available, we create more opportunities for voters to make their voices heard.” That community-focused message soon grew into a regional one. Garcia joined Broward Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott and Palm Beach Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link for the first joint news conference involving the three South Florida election supervisors, encouraging eligible residents across the region to register, become informed and participate in the General Election. The three counties together account for approximately one in four registered voters in Florida. The collaboration underscored a shared message among the three offices that voter participation begins before anyone steps into a voting booth. Knowing registration deadlines, reviewing voting information and deciding when and how to cast a ballot are all part of being election ready. Miami-Dade also entered another important stage of election preparations with more than 200,000 requested Vote-by-Mail ballots beginning the process of being mailed to voters. As Election Day moves closer, several important dates remain. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 5. The deadline to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot is Thursday, October 22 at 5 p.m. Early Voting will run October 19 through November 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For voters, officials are encouraging preparation now: verify voter information, review the sample ballot, become familiar with voting options and make a plan before Election Day arrives.
