Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is easily one of the most photographed people on the planet. But those images don’t always cast the MAGA frontman in the best light, no matter who’s standing next to him. The 80-year-old former reality television star found himself back o n the world stage next to first lady Melania Trump. The image shows Trump, Melania, Xi, and Peng as they appear to exit the White House balcony after the military showcase.   The snapshot looked like a still straight out of a horror movie. Trump scowled at the camera with an orange-tinged face. Melania stood behind him, looking aggravated. Xi wore a sheepish expression, while Peng flashed a slight smile. Unsurprisingly, the internet fixated on the POTUS and FLOTUS. With ongoing rumors of marital strife hovering over the Trumps, a tongue-in-cheek response to the photo read, “Damn, she’s turning orange too,” touching on online criticism about Trump and Melania starting to look alike. A closer zoomed-in image of the First Family prompted the most brutal comment, “It’s like a poster for a horror movie.” Some wondered what set Trump off, asking, “Did Melania say something to upset Donald?” Another said, “You can feel the hate coming from Melania with that look, shades of Medusa,” offered a second responder, referring to the snake-haired woman from Greek mythology. Online users noted, “how awkward for Xi and wife,” this much have been watching Melania and Trump after what looks like the aftermath of an argument. But honestly, Trump’s angry-looking demeanor was tied to a female soldier who stole his spotlight. Trump’s scowl quickly became the focus of the photo, but earlier footage offered a different explanation. A female Marine repeatedly tapped Trump to get his attention during the ceremony. One viewer claimed she tapped him three ties to direct him to leave after the military showcase. Another joked that Trump “doesn’t want a woman telling him what to do.” The footage does not confirm why Trump looked irritated. Still, the moment gave viewers another detail to dissect as Trump and Melania hosted Xi and Peng. Another observer, “He thinks she is telling him to salute. But, from the movement of the flag behind him, I think she was telling him it was time to leave. He did’t get the message, so she had to come back again to give him the directions. He’s angry because he didn’t know what was going on, and he hates being told what to do.” All eyes have been on Trump and Melania during Xi’s three-day stay in the nation’s capital, particularly since the first lady rarely appeared with her husband throughout 2026. Melania removed herself from the public eye for about a month during the summer. She returned to the spotlight at a White House Rose Garden event in August. The married pair then showed up together at the Pentagon for a commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Again, Melania’s stone-faced appearance on that day made headlines. Viewers claimed the Slovenian-American immigrant came off as “unhappy” or “angry” while in the presence of her spouse. Others implied both Melania and Trump seemed “miserable.” As of this writing, the reason for Trump and Melania’s presumably peeved expressions at the White House while entertaining Xi remains unconfirmed. “The Art of the Deal” author and the ex-model reportedly living in separate cities fuel speculation that their union is mostly for show.
