The Dallas (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, hosted dozens of scholars at its latest STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts and Math) Academy event for girls. The scholars took a trip to the Commemorative Air Force’s Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center at Dallas Execu tive Airport to get a first-hand look at the world of aviation. Through a session presented in partnership with the City of Dallas, they learned from African American pilots and aviation professionals while exploring the stories, aircraft, and possibilities shaping aviation. Organizers of the STEAM Academy, which launched in 2012, said their continued purpose is to cultivate self-confidence, communication, critical thinking, and leadership capabilities by engaging 7th to 12th grade female scholars of color in exciting activities. These are opportunities that organizers said may not have happened for these girls in their current environments. The 91 scholars on this year’s roster attend over 24 different schools. The Dallas (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was chartered in November 1957.
