The Miners boys golf team is chasing its first state championship since the 2024 season this fall.  Head coach Jenny MacDougall believes her team may just have what it takes to reach the mountaintop once more.  Park City’s results are starting to back up their coach’s belief at the perf ect time in the season, with three weeks to go before the state championship on Oct. 14 and 15. The Miners won their home regional match on Sept. 3. Then, the team finished second to East on Wednesday by just two strokes in another regional match at Glendale Golf Course in Salt Lake City.  Junior Hudson Darmstandler led Park City on Wednesday, shooting a 67, the second lowest score in the eight-team match by one stroke. Seniors Linus Einum, Graham Morgan and Ryan Navarro weren’t far behind Darmstandler, shooting 70, 71 and 71, respectively.  “We’ve got a strong group of seniors,” MacDougall said. “The seniors are really setting the pace, and they’re doing a great job. … They just have the leadership qualities and maturity that you look for, and it’s really kind of a rising tide lifts all boats situation.” The Miners have their final regular season regional match at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville on Monday.  “East is great for us in the region,” MacDougall said. “(They are) kind of that dangling carrot. I definitely think we are right there, and we have a great opportunity to pull ahead in this next regional tournament. … That’s going to only help our team going into state, having that competitive back and forth.” On Oct. 5, Park City makes their final in-competition preparations for the state championship in the regional championship match at The Ridge Golf Club in West Valley City.  “It’s really for momentum for the team and just building that confidence going into state,” MacDougall said. “We’re not shooting for any particular score at (the) regional championship. … But it would be great if we took a win there.” The Miners will take an overnight trip to practice on the Palisade Golf Course, the host of the state championship, in Sterling on Oct. 8 and 9. MacDougall said the team is also looking into how they can prepare for the state championship on golf simulators. She is proud of the extra steps the team has been taking to prepare for the state championship, which for some players includes extra trips nearly two-and-a-half hours south to Sterling.  “The kids right now are doing a phenomenal job of preparing themselves mentally and physically for state and then preparing their teammates, too,” MacDougall said. “I’m just watching a few of the players become natural leaders and really bring up their teammates during a round and after a round.” For any more information about high school golf in Utah, see the Utah High School Activities Association website: uhsaa.org/uhsaa-boys-golf.  The post Miners boys golf team takes second in regional match in Salt Lake City appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
