An investigation was underway Friday morning following a deadly officer-involved shooting in Middle Township, New Jersey, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Drivers were rerouted as police closed the roadway at the intersection of Route 9 and Satt Boulevard in Middle Township on Sept. 25. At approximately 11:30 a.m., NBC10’s SkyForce 10 spotted a significant police presence as traffic was halted at the intersection. Middle Township Mayor Christopher Leusner released a statement following the incident, saying in part that he “recognizes how deeply an event like this affects everyone involved, including the individual and their family, our officers, and our residents, and our thoughts are with all of them.” Officers could be seen gathered near a black sedan in the middle of the roadway that had all of its door opened. Middle Township police did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the ongoing situation. However, prosecutors said the scene was secured following the deadly incident involving law enforcement and that the Attorney General’s Office was conducting a “thorough” investigation. There is no ongoing threat to the public, officials said.
