GONZALES mdash; A man was found guilty of first-degree murder after he shot his one-year-old daughter and girlfriend.Kalvin Forcell, 42, of Gonzales, shot his girlfriend Christina Artus, 42, and their daughter Kaylee on Jan. 14, 2024. Officials said that Artus was working in the yard outside her ho me when Forcell shot the two.Forcell then drove to a Dollar General parking lot, where he tried pulling the door handle of a vehicle. Forcell proceeded to walk to a nearby residence where he attempted to gain entry into a second parked vehicle; however, he was again unsuccessful.Forcell ultimately gained entry into a vehicle parked near another residence, attempted to flee after being spotted by the vehicle, and at some point, entered a residence without authorization where he was ultimately detained at gunpoint until deputies arrived.He was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, attempted simple burglary of a vehicle, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.Sentencing is set for Dec. 7; Forcell faces two mandatory life sentences on the first-degree murder charges alone.Permalink| Comments ...read more read less
