INDIANAPOLIS — $100 million has officially been given out by FEMA to homeowners throughout Indiana following the flooding and storms that began on August 11, according to Gov. Mike Braun.  More than $10 million has gone from the state to homeowners as well. That money comes from reserves a nd “rainy day” funds, according to the state.  Braun says the state took over debris cleanup on Sept. 10, and more than 76,000 cubic yards of debris have been disposed of since.  Kevin Guthrie, the state’s Debris Removal Task Force Leader, says he has about a dozen people on the task force to assist in state-specific cleanup efforts.  Guthrie says debris removal is happening at a rapid pace thanks to new assessment technology.  Rather than having FEMA workers physically on-the-ground to assess the damage, FEMA and the state are using drone technology to survey damage spots with pinpoint accuracy. “I saw some of the outputs to where it literally found a 2×4 in the middle of a river and separated it away from the vegetation and the trees. That’s the point of what we’re able to do now,” Guthrie said.
