Two injuries and two losses as Flyers' short preseason hits halfway mark
Sep 22, 2026
Just like that, in two days, the Flyers are halfway through the preseason.
And it has not been favorable to them.
Rick Tocchet’s club saw a 1-1 game at second intermission turn into a 5-1 loss Tuesday night to the Bruins. But that wasn’t the Flyers’ only loss in their trip to TD Garden.
Dan Vladar had to depart in the first period with an upper-body injury. More on that below.
Jacob Gaucher scored the Flyers’ lone goal, which knotted things up with 1:54 minutes left in the opening stanza. The 25-year-old forward made a nice power move to the net.
The Flyers opened the shortened preseason slate Monday night with a 5-2 loss to the Capitals at Giant Center. Denver Barkey left the game with a lower-body injury.
With two exhibition games to go, both at home, the Flyers should feature more of their projected lineup for opening night. They’ll cross their fingers that no more injuries pop up.
The club starts the regular season next Wednesday.
• If Vladar ever looks like he’s in discomfort or pain, it’s concerning.
Because he’s that important to the Flyers.
The 29-year-old goaltender was hunched over, favoring his right arm and stick hand as he skated toward the bench after Boston scored to make it 1-0. The injury happened with 6:29 minutes remaining in the first period.
There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury. More on Vladar and the goaltending situation here.
Aleksei Kolosov took over for Vladar and stopped 14 of 18 shots.
• Cole Knuble and Jett Luchanko were again positives for the Flyers. The forward prospects played in both games of the back-to-back set.
Against the Bruins, Knuble was active and had a couple of shots. His motor is very good and he can play both ends of the rink.
Luchanko recorded his second assist of the preseason. He just looks healthier and more confident.
• The Flyers are scheduled to practice Wednesday. They’re expected to have some more cuts coming up. Their roster is at 42 players and can have no more than 23 by the start of the regular season.
