(KRON) --Stanford Residential and Dining Enterprises, the campus department in charge of food and housing, used AI to alter a student's race, gender and weight in marketing materials, a Stanford spokesperson confirmed. The original photo was posted to Stanford dining's Instagram page some time ago. The picture shows three students standing in what seems to be the Stanford dining hall. From left to right, the photo shows an Asian woman in a white Stanford-branded hoodie, a white man wearing a brown crewneck, and another man wearing a blue hoodie. The photo has since been deleted from the page. Most people think AI will cause job loss, not growth, according to new survey According to The Stanford Review, the student identified himself as Billy Ramirez who is a senior at the university. He is quoted saying that he remembers a Stanford photographer taking the photo of him in the dining halls. The altered photo used the original photo to change Ramirez into a Black woman. It also shows that the other two students in the photo were edited to appear slimmer than in the original photo. Charlene Gage, Stanford University PR Director, sent KRON4 a statement that reads: "We have reviewed the matter and confirmed that AI was used to alter the image in violation of university policy. Stanford's AI policy is clear: The use of AI in producing or altering images of Stanford people, events, research, facilities, or achievements is strictly prohibited. Both the alteration and lack of disclosure in this case violate that policy.
