A local hair salon owner is left starting over from scratch after thieves broke into her business last Thursday, spending an hour inside and making off with tens of thousands of dollars in supplies and equipment. The burglary happened during the early morning hours while the owner was out of town and no one was working. Compounding the loss, the salon’s security system failed to notify police of the break-in. Segen Gedam, owner of Goddess Hair Bar, recalled the moment she discovered the devastation. “I just wanted to vomit, I wanted to vomit, I just couldn’t believe my eyes,” Gedam said. Surveillance footage captures two thieves entering the salon. One of the suspects notices a security camera and throws it to the floor. The footage shows the pair moving to the back of the shop, rummaging through cabinets, stuffing supplies into bags, and leaving a mess behind. “It was containers of hair on this side, containers of hair that side, all my chemicals,” Gedam said. Gedam specializes in hair extensions. The thieves stole her entire inventory, including hair, retail products, professional tools, and everyday supplies. “They even took napkins, like tissue paper, for the bathroom,” she said. Because the security system failed to alert authorities, the burglars had ample time to ransack the business for a full hour before fleeing. The loss has forced Gedam to question the future of her livelihood. “I worked so hard, do I want to do that again? Do I want to start all over again?” she asked. Despite the setback, the Campbell community is rallying around Gedam by launching an online fundraiser and continuing to book appointments at the salon. “It’s not just about the money, it’s about feeling protective of someone trying to hurt our family, our community, our space,” said Angelina Barron, a customer at Goddess Hair Bar. Gedam, who has spent 20 years in the industry and owned her salon for a decade, remains determined. “I’m not going to give up, I worked too hard,” she said.
