GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- CarMax will lay off more than 145 corporate employees, with 60 being in the Goochland County office, a spokesperson confirmed. On Friday, Sept. 18, a CarMax spokesperson told 8News that 60 associates will be impacted. Officials reportedly chose to reduce its corporat e office staffing by about 145 associates to "support our strategic priorities and operate with a leaner corporate workforce." CarMax is based in the Richmond region, with its headquarters located in Goochland. The impacted roles span multiple departments and levels, including technology, product, human resources, marketing, accounting and finance, operations, Edmunds and others, the spokesperson said. The reduction also includes corporate offices in Dallas, Atlanta (CarMax Auto Finance) and Edmunds. This comes roughly eight months after CarMax shared in January that 113 employees were laid off in the Richmond area due to "workforce changes." The company’s full statement is as follows: "We have made the difficult decision to reduce our corporate office staffing by approximately 145 associates to support our strategic priorities and operate with a leaner corporate workforce. These changes will help us move faster and create better alignment across teams. By running leaner as an organization, we are positioning CarMax to be more competitive, drive sustainable growth, and provide even more value for our customers. Our primary focus is supporting our associates throughout this transition. We're grateful for their contributions to CarMax and are committed to supporting them as they take their next step. We are providing resources to the associates who are impacted, including providing severance, outplacement support, and the opportunity to apply for open internal roles.
